W roku 1790 garncarz nazwiskiem Wojtas założył w Ćmielowie manufakturę wytwarzającą gliniane garnki i fajans. To był początek sławnej Fabryki Porcelany, która działa nieprzerwanie do dziś. Połączona w ubiegłym roku z podobną fabryką z Chodzieży (też z tradycjami - założoną w roku 1852), jest obecnie największym producentem porcelany stołowej w Europie.
Koneserzy rozpoznają na pierwszy rzut oka porcelanę z Ćmielowa – delikatną, finezyjną, ręcznie malowaną. Firma słynie z historycznych kolekcji, które trafiają na królewskie dwory, do siedzib głów państw i innych VIP-ów na całym świecie. In 1790 the Polish potter, Wojas founded a manufacture of earthenware in Ćmielów. This was the beginning of the famous porcelain factory which has been running continuously until today. In 2013 a similar manufacture in Chodzież (also with a long tradition - founded in 1852) was merged with Ćmielów factory. Currently it is the largest manufacturer of porcelain tableware in Europe.
Connoisseurs will recognize porcelain from Ćmielów at first glance - delicate, finesse, hand-painted. The company is known for its historical collections that decorate the royal mansion, the residences of heads of states and other VIPs around the world. Traditional dinner sets have not changed for decades, however, the Ćmielów Design Studio offers a modern design.
Według informacji z maja 2012 roku w Kopiejsku (Rosja) otwarto "Muzeum Naparstków", w którym można zobaczyć trzysta eksponatów.
Podobne muzea istnieją tylko w trzech krajach: Holandii, Austrii oraz Niemczech.
Otwarcie "Muzeum Naparstków " miało miejsce w Kopiejskiej fabryce odzieży. Zebrane akcesoria do szycia zaprezentował dyrektor Włodzimierz Malinowski (Владимир Малиновский).
W zbiorach można zobaczyć naparstki z całego świata - m.in. z Grecji, Egiptu, Turcji, Cypru, Kuby i, oczywiście, z Rosji.
Na uwagę zasługują wyjątkowo oryginalne eksponaty, np. wykonane z kości mamuta czy ludzkiego zęba, a nawet wysadzane rubinami. Kolekcje posegregowano także tematycznie, np. "w stylu angielskim" czy "inspirowane katolicyzmem".
W przyszłości przewidywano także uruchomienie trasy turystycznej z możliwością zwiedzania z przewodnikami.

According to the information from May 2012 'The Museum of Thimbles' was opened in Kopeysk (Russia). The collection presents 300 exhibits.

There are similar museums only in three countries: Holland, Austria and Germany.
The opening ceremony of the 'The Museum of Thimbles' took place in the campus of Kopeysk garment factory. Sewing accessories were presented by the director Владимир Малиновский.
In the museum one can see thimbles from all over the world – from Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Cyprus, Cuba and Russia, of course.
Noteworthy exhibits presents for example pieces made of mammoth tusk or human tooth or are even studded with rubies. Collections have been classified thematically as well, for for example 'english style' or 'inspired by Catholicism'.
There were plans, that in the future there would be a tourist route with a guided sightseeing tour organized.

Meet Robert J. Harper from Canada. He is the owner of the largest collection of thimbles. According to the information from Guiness World Records (from 8 January 2013) he has 8003 different thimbles!
'Robert J. Harper began his thimble collection in 1986 with 12 thimbles.
His favourite thimble in the collection is pewter thimble with a drummer
boy figure.'

Witajcie, dzisiaj chciałabym podzielić się z Wami informacjami na temat postępów w budowaniu strony Mojej Kolekcji Naparstków.
Na stronie jest obecnie ponad 600 okazów. Zamieściłam już także dwie pierwsze sygnatury: australijską wytwórni Westminster oraz angielską wytwórni Adams. Przygotowałam również alfabetyczny podział sygnatur. Mam nadzieję, że będzie to wygodne rozwiązanie.
Na stronie pojawiły się dwie nowe zakładki: Kolekcjonerzy naparstków oraz Inne strony. To miejsca dla Was! Możecie przesłać do mnie informacje, zgodnie z instrukcjami na stronie. Kolekcjonerzy naparstków to miejsce do podzielenia się informacjami o sobie i swojej kolekcji w celu zaprezentowania swoich zbiorów innym kolekcjonerom, a także aby umożliwić zawieranie nowych znajomości, co pozwoli na wymianę doświadczeń i naparstków, oczywiście! W zakładce Inne strony znajdziecie interesujące i ważne adresy stron internetowych. Możecie także przesyłać mi propozycje takich stron do opublikowania. Ideą obu tych zakładek jest zgromadzenie informacji w jednym miejscu.

Hi, today I would like to share with you the information about the progress of My Thimble Collection website creating.
There is more than 600 thimbles on the site at the moment. I also put two first marks: Australian Westminster and English Adams. As you can see I already prepared alphabetical division for the marks. I hope it will be useful.
There are two new sections on the website: Thimble Collectors and Other sites. These are for you! You can send me information according the instructions on the website. Thimble Collectors section is a place to show information about yourself and your collection to present your collection to other Digitabulists and to strike up an acquaintance for experiences exchange and thimble exchange, of course! Other sites is a place where you can find interesting and important thimble links. You can also send me a propositions of such websites to publish them. The idea of these two sections is to put the information in a one place.
Now you have a possibility of leaving comments for thimbles and give them star raiting, like you can see in case of Limoges' painted flowers thimble. Thank you Linda for the first comment!

Zestaw "Thimbles of the Worlds' Porcelain Houses" ("Naparstki z najznamienitszych światowych wytwórni porcelany") z sierpnia 1980 roku okazał się być jednym z najpopularniejszych wśród kolekcjonerów naparstków. Niemal 30 lat po premierze, wciąż wyznacza początek kolekcjonerskiego zainteresowania naparstkami. Prezentuje niemal wszystkie ówczesne europejskie manufaktury porcelany. Dzięki popularności, jaką cieszył się zestaw, który stworzył Franklin Mint, wiele wytwórni zaprojektowało dla niego swój pierwszy naparstek i w ten sposób rozpoczęło produkcję na kolejnych 10-15 lat.

The August 1980 Franklin Mint 'Thimbles of the Worlds' Porcelain Houses' set has proved to be a very popular set with collectors. Nearly 30 years after its release, this set is still marks the beginning of the collectable thimbles interest. It covered most of the thimble china and porcelain brands of England and Europe of the time. With the popularity of the Franklin Mint set, many of these china houses first made thimbles for this set and went on to produce thimbles for the next 10-15 years.
Liczący około 2 tys. lat naparstek znaleziono podczas wykopalisk w Sobkowie w województwie świętokrzyskim w 2007 roku. To prawdopodobnie najstarsze takie znalezisko w Polsce i jedno z najstarszych w Europie.

The oldest Polish thimble was found in 2007 during the excavation in Sobkowo (świętokrzyskie voivodeship). This clay thimble may be about 2000 years old and this is probably one of the oldest potsherds in Europe.

Thimbles were not marked with sizes before 1890: there were simply large, women's, maids' or children's. From 1900 onwards sizes from 9 to 00 were marked, the higher number for the smallest thimbles.

The biggest porcelain manufacture in the world has been located near the biggest European lake and the green hills of the Bakonyan Forest for nearly 180 years now. The company started its activity in 1826 as a small factory employing only a few people…
In 1826 Vince Single founded a manufacture in Herend. Thirteen years later Mór Fisher began to manage it. For almost two centuries of its existence Herend porcelain manufacture employs the finest masters. Over the years, innovative technological solutions were introduced. Masterpieces of arts were created and subtle, unique decorations were designed. In 1851 Queen Victoria fell in love with the Hungarian products.
In 1874, after Móra Fisher’s retiring, his sons took care of the factory and than – in 1896 – his grandson, Jenő Farkasházy. The year later, the manufacture began to accustom young people to artistic professions. After gaining required skills there was a possibility of employment in the factory.
In 1904 Herend manufacture won a gold medal in the World’s Fair in St Louis. After the fair in Chicago in 1933, overseas markets opened for the factory. And in 1981 the manufacture became an independent company. In 1995 Herend as the first European porcelain manufacture was certified ISO 9001 quality certificate.
Since the beginning of the factory, porcelain from the town of Herend delighted aristocracy and art’s experts soon discovered the magic of hand-made trinkets and became returning customers of Herend. 'The white gold' began to accommodate increasingly also in the imperial and royal courts. The most famous clients of the Hungarian factory in XIX century were: Queen Vistoria, Emperor and Hungarian King Franz Joseph and his wife Queen Elizabeth. Also in XX century the Herend porcelain enjoyed unflagging popularity. Among the worldwide celebrities which were captivated by the unique character of subtle products were inter alia: John Paul II, Benedyct XVI, Princess Diana, Lewis Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Herend workshop can manufacture more than 16000 different forms, about 4000 patterns and three variations of each of those patterns. Therefore, theoretically, there is a possibility of creating abort 64 millions of different products. From the very beginning, Herend manufacture was known as the international deliverer of the most beautiful porcelain. Currently, the company cooperates with 60 states from the whole Word. Yearly, about 100000 people visit the manufacture.
Reaching out visitors’ expectations, the Minimanufacture was opened in 1999. It cooperates with Herend Museum which is opened since 1852 (initially, the place functioned as a showroom – created primarily for commercial issues).
In addition to visiting the manufacture and museum, you can also look at the process of porcelain creating, watch a film about Herend history, but also eat a lunch, have a cup of coffee and do some shopping at the company store of course (but be careful, the prices are knockdown!).
In my collection I have one Herend specimen (porcelain thimble: Herend flowers, Herend – Hungary).

A few days ago I received new Russian thimbles from Аленa! Below you can see some pictures.
I already have in my collection a lot of wooden, hand-painted thimbles. However, as I have written many times, these are my favorite specimens. So - never enough such treasures!
Next two thimbles are hand-made by Аленa. I have been waiting a long time for such thimbles to become a part of my collection...
...and last two items are from Saint Petersburg and Ekaterinburg. I already have similar St. Petersburg thimble, but this is the first specimen from Ekaterinburg. Yekaterinburg (Russian: Екатеринбу́рг, also romanized Ekaterinburg) is a major city in the central part of Russia, the administrative center of Sverdlovsk Oblast.

About a year ago I wrote about a set of American Fashion Thimbles. Now, I already have them all, together with a beautiful wooden shelf. Ladies dresses are from the years, in order: 1890, 1900, 1923, 1927, 1928, 1938, 1942 and 1947. The set is not only an original addition to my thimble collection, but also a perfect decoration in the hall.
I wish you peace and smile on those Easter days. In the picture you can see our Easter eggs, coloured with special paints which gave the desired colours!
